Delight in the Experience

Delight in the Experience

Take the time to enjoy the experience even if you do less “things” in a day. I think that all of the fast track summaries and quick ways to do more are really exhausting and lack the flavor of the experience. We become board and loose the sensuality of life. Relaxing with a great book and reading each detail allows you to be creative. I really think that it is important to take the quick route and read the summery when pressed for time. But lets make sure to enjoy the whole experience as often as possible.

Tragedy and Drunk Driving

On December 12th 2008 my sister and her husband were taking a trip in New Mexico.

They stopped to read a map and were o n the shoulder of the road with their hazard lights on. That was the last time they were together! A drunk driver who was being pursued by the police, passed the lane of cars on the right hand side at 90 miles an hour. My sister’s husband was killed instantly and miraculously my sister lived. Although she was injured, her physical injuries are healing. Her emotional scars will last a lifetime. There are children who are now without a father, and many family members and friends who are grief-stricken.

The other driver escaped with minor injuries and is facing a prison term for vehicular homicide. How do you come to terms with such a great loss? What can be done to stop this type of tragedy? Certainly selling liquor right on the highway is a first step!

Comfort,Love, and Caring

I wanted to talk about "Quality of Life" and how each day is so very precious. Hospice recognizes the importance of each day, and in fact each moment. Every moment we share with our families has great meaning. The comfort, love, and caring that hospice provides values every moment for patients and their loved ones. This is a tremendous thing !

Finding a New Way to Celebrate

I just wanted to say that I think Christmas 2008 will be a great one, despite the economic turmoil that we are currently experiencing. Please understand, I am not minimizing the hardships that the slowing economy has created for so many of us. Significantly cutting back on my budget, and including giving to others are definite priorities for me this year. I am also supporting our locally owned businesses, where I have recently found great unique gifts at very reasonable prices.

Let’s not cut back on LOVE, JOY and helping one another through these tough times. After all, I think that is what the Holidays are truly about. So whatever you spend or do not spend, I encourage you to have a Happy Festive Holiday Season, and to celebrate together the season’s true meaning.

Love and Peace,

Carol

Hospice Awareness

I want to take a minute to discuss hospice awareness and how important it is to to get the word out so that people are aware of the services that hospice  provides.

When I lost my father, I did not know about hospice care and both my father and our family suffered. He was in great pain in the hospital, and I was frightened and at a loss as to what to do to help him.

Losing my father was a heart wrenching event - but the fear and lack of loving care was horrifying. Soon after his death, I learned about hospice and became a volunteer. I am so thankful to help provide comfort for people with terminal illness and their families. It is truly all about the quality of our loving and caring connection to eachother that helps during a time of great loss.

Thankyou,

Carol

Holiday Simpatico

Style Conscience participated in Holiday Simpatico 2008, a fundraising event for the Junior League of Albuquerque.

Holiday Simpatico 2008 was held at the Tanoan Country Club in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Saturday November 15th. It was a fantastic event with wonderful items to purchase from about 20 local vendors. I think that everyone enjoyed the unique products including clothing, fragrances, food, toys, jewelry, handbags, and other delightful treats! In addition, there were refreshments, raffles, door prizes and best of all Santa and his lovely wife.

I would like to thank the Junior league for their efforts and for inviting me to participate in this year's event.

Also, a special thanks to Patricia for all of her help and for including me in this year's event.

I will see you in 2009.

Love and Peace,

Carol

Great Gifts under $25.00

I am happy to say that I have had a great time searching for gifts under $25.00. There are so many fun and  "cheery" choices. Many simple items are available in gorgeuos bright colors which make them special, and  I love to pick out my favorite color for a cherished family member or friend.

Hand crafted gifts are also a great choice and I love to support local artists by attending craft shows or shopping at our local specialty stores. Recently I purchased some wonderful candles and jewlery as well as a great velvet scarf. Each gift looks like a one of a kind and the best part is that I found them right here in Abuquerque at our local specialty shops.

Don't forget to consider the wrapping. There are so many festive ideas for wrapping your gifts which is really the first "WOW" at the holidays.

Caretakers take heart in Albuquerque

Style Conscience was honored to participate in the Caregiver Connections special event hosted by the New Mexico depatment of Senior Affairs. Over 500 people participated and enjoyed classes, a great lunch, and meeting new friends. My favorite part was how heartwarming it was to see caregivers connect, share personal stories, and have a special day devoted to enhancing their knowlege in all areas related to caretaking.

Love and Peace,

Carol

Give Back In Style

Hello! This is my very first Blog. I am so excited to share my passion for my jewelry designs and for my volunteer work with Hospice.

I have been a Hospice volunteer for many years and I am deeply touched by the amazing care, comfort and love that Hospice provides to patients and their families.

I have also designed jewelry for thirty years and am passionate about my design work. Last year I had an inspiration for a jewelry collection called Linked Hearts. You are welcome to visit my website at www.styleconscience.com. I give back 20% of each sale to the National Hospice Foundation. The National Hospice Foundation has allowed me to use their logo in conjunction with my jewelry. I have donated to their Gala event in Washington DC and participated in other fundraising events to benefit Hospice.

If you visit my site and purchase a Large Linked Heart pendant during the month of June 2008 I will send you a complimentary small Linked Heart with your purchase. I hope to hear from you on my site!
